Ethylene-1-octene random copolymer (POE)


POE is a polyolefin elastomer with low density, excellent physical properties, chemical corrosion resistance, gas permeability and electrical properties, which was first developed by DowDuPont (DWDP) using metallocene catalyst.
The content of copolymer 1-octene in typical POE is more than 20%. Compared with traditional polymers, its molecular weight distribution and copolymer distribution are narrow, short branch chain distribution is uniform, so it has excellent physical and mechanical properties (high elasticity, high strength and high elongation) and good low temperature performance.

Demand pattern

At present, POE applications are mainly divided into single material direct application, blending modification, grafting modification, foaming modification, etc., of which the total proportion of modification applications is estimated to be about 80%.

Modified application

Due to its excellent toughness and balance performance, good low temperature toughness, rheological properties and mechanical properties, POE products through blending modification with other products, grafting modification, etc., to replace many ordinary rubber and plastics, used in automobiles, home appliances, shoe materials and other fields.
In foreign countries, POE is mainly used in the modification of automobile bumpers to improve the impact resistance of bumpers.
In China, it is estimated that more than 50% of imported POE is used in automotive interior parts and bumpers, some of it is used in polymer toughening modification, and other fields.

Single material direct application

POE is used as a single material, mainly used in the packaging material of photovoltaic components - film.
Compared with EVA film, the biggest advantage of POE film is low water vapor transmittance and high volume resistivity, which ensures the safety and long-term aging resistance of photovoltaic modules in high temperature and high humidity environment, so that the components can be used efficiently for a long time.

In summary, POE application directions are as follows:


1. PP modification

Mixed with elastomer POE to improve PP impact performance, modified and toughened PP can be applied to car bumpers, car door panels, home appliance shells, office stationery, electric car and motorcycle plastic accessories and PP jelly cups.


2, improve PP/PE material return performance

PP/PE return material, add POE blending granulation or direct injection molding, can be used in plastic pallets, plastic turnover boxes, plastic toolbox, plastic office desk and chair accessories, beach chairs and so on.


3, PA nylon and other engineering plastics toughening, compatible agent
POE can be successfully and effectively grafted with maleic anhydride (MAH), glycidyl methacrylate (GMA), acrylic AA and other monomers by peroxide triggering, and the grafts obtained are widely used to toughen engineering plastics such as PA, and can also be used as compatibilizers in plastic alloys.

4. Foaming with EVA
The flexibility and resilience of POE is much higher than that of EVA, and the foaming will have better results, such as the product weight after foaming is lighter, the compression rebound is better, the touch is good, the bubble hole is uniform and delicate, and the tearing strength is high.
Whether it is molded foam or injection foam after granulation, POE has been used in a large number of beach shoes, slippers, sports shoes midsole, mouse pad, seat cushion, polyron material, insulation material, buffer sheet, bag lining and other foam products.

5, EVA extrusion hose modification with POE
The mixed use of EVA and POE is added to the inner layer of the extruded hose, resulting in a pollution-resistant seal that requires a low heat seal temperature and a higher heat seal strength. Widely used in vacuum cleaner hose, washing machine hose, drainpipe.

6, color masterbatch or fill masterbatch
POE is used as a carrier or instead of PE wax in the color masterbatch or filled masterbatch to improve the quality of the color masterbatch or filled masterbatch.

7. Hot melt glue
POE can replace EVA to produce high-grade hot melt adhesive, and the product can be odorless, low density, high flow coating, good wettability, etc., and can also be used with EVA.

8, cable material
POE can replace EVA, EEA or EPDM for non-PVC cable sheath insulation; In addition, POE hardness and strength of low change rate can replace EVA or EVA and used to produce halogen-free flame retardant cable material.

9. Membrane products
Such as PE film, based on POE/LLDPE/CPP blend.

10, non-woven fabric
In order to improve the softness and drapability of spunmelt nonwovens, suitable polyolefin elastomers should be selected and other functional additives should be added during the production of nonwovens. Through the formulation design, adding a certain proportion of elastomer can greatly improve the performance of nonwovens, and the product weight can also be greatly reduced. Its softness, static friction coefficient, dynamic friction coefficient will be significantly improved.
